Kathleen O'Brien specializes in services management, event planning, and private club management and teaches cultural tourism and management strategies for the global hospitality industry. She served as director of Campus House, the department's teaching and research laboratory. She also serves as education committee co-chair for the New York State chapter of Club Management Association of America (CMAA) and advises the Buffalo State student chapter of CMAA. Kathleen serves as Alcoholic Beverage Officer (ABC) for licensing and is the coordinator for Alcohol Server and Seller training for the department. O'Brien earned hospitality educator certification through the Educational Institute of the American Hotel and Lodging Association in 2002. Kathleen earned credentials through participation in The Fostering Innovation in Teaching with Technology (FITT) Academy which is a hands-on project-specific faculty development opportunity sponsored by Information Technology. She is a campus expert in applied learning, an educational approach whereby students learn by engaging in direct application of skills, theories, and models.
